Nothing Serious by Jay Northcote

Nothing Serious - Jay Northcote

Disclaimers first this time: The author is a Twitter friend and I only bought the book because of that friendship. However she knows how picky I am, and that I won't lie. An honest review to follow:

More plot please.

There's a lot of sex here for a 40k novella, but that didn't bother me too much this time. Perhaps because I knew what to expect. Also, because despite the quantity of sex scenes indicating erotica, the quality remained very much on the romantic side. It makes sense plot-wise for a newly out Mark to be experimenting sexually on the page, often and in great detail.

Yet, I missed actually seeing the guys bond. Most likely due to the length of the story, their ordinary interactions were limited. Their connection grew out of sex, and aside from time jumps and certain key scenes with family and friends, there wasn't much to indicate their growing closeness. The reader was told and shown with little hints in their reactions how Mark and Jamie feel, but I'm not entirely sure why they fell in love. Which qualities exactly did Mark find so endearing that he just had to keep Jamie in his bed aside from the fact that he slept better with someone than alone? And aside from looking up to Mark's intellect, what exactly did Jamie find appealing in the older man?

Nothing Serious is a good and quick read if you're not looking for anything too serious.
